Horizon: Inspired by the artwork of Grant Haffner.

“My dreamlike landscapes explore the intersections of the sky and open road, highlighting the beauty that is often overlooked in nature transitions throughout the day. I explore the limits of the horizon, which appears to extend as far as the eye can see, with no end or beginning.” –Grant Haffner

And now, meet Myiesha and Katie, the design team behind    MYKT logo, and the women responsible for this awesome collection!

What inspired the collection?
M: We were asked to create an ABC themed collection for about 2 years, but we were having trouble finding a reference or start point that inspired us.  It was difficult finding something that was a bit retro but also could be a bit modern.  Let’s face it, how many times and different ways can you use “Mother Goose” as inspiration?  However, by the beginning of 2013 we finally found inspiration with the concept of a book teaching kids how to read and write.  Katie and I painstakingly looked up references for what was cute, retro and playful for the 26 letters of the alphabet.  From that point, Katie and I planned out the rest of the group.  We knew we needed a main pattern, a large letter pattern, a script pattern and some fun small coordinates to add some playfulness and cohesion.  Katie and I are really a great team, we have a creative balance that has gotten us through a lot of challenging projects.  Whatever I’m slow at or hate to do, Katie  loves it and is extremely fast and vice versa.  It was a true team effort that we are very proud to have accomplished, even though there were times we looked at each other and asked, “How are we going do this?”

What do you do at Windham Fabrics?
M: We both do textile design, advertising and graphic design.  My favorite thing to do here is color.  Give me a pattern or a collection where the palette needs to be created, revamped or more trendy and I’m on it with a big smile on my face.  Katie’s favorite thing to do here is the drawing and designing of patterns.  She is very meticulous with detail and does beautiful work on whatever she draws.

Tell us one thing not many people know about you.
M: I am currently writing a book based on my weight loss journey.  I’ve lost about 140 pounds and still going.   Katie loves latin dancing.  Her absolute favorite dance is the tango.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
M: I would have to say Italy.  It’s a dream of mine to make it there and experience the art, architecture, food, wine, shopping, and history.  Hopefully, I’ll make it there next year.  Katie’s answer is Iceland.  She is actually going there this fall and is very excited to see the Northern Lights and the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon.

Thanks, Myiesha and Katie!

Project

If you are looking for a quick and easy back-to-school project, I whipped up a couple of these great pouches in about 30 minutes!  The great mother-daughter team of Lisa and Sarah at A Spoonful of Sugar  in Australia (where is most definitely is NOT back-to-school time) came up with this tutorial and let us share it with you. So, click on over to check it out!

I love this case because I think it is very versatile—I made two this morning and already have thought of uses for more! This case is a great size for pens, a cell phone or even maybe your lipsticks.  Make it slightly larger, 9 1/4 x 9 inches with a 9" zipper, if you want it to fit new pencils or checkbooks.
